These high capacity pilots are capable of lighting off at up to 9,500,000
Btu/hr with only 2.5 psig natural gas. They are capable of remaining
stable in air streams of 6,000 feet/min. For higher velocities,
a special hood can be supplied. Once light off is obtained, the
pilot is stable up to capacities as high as 10,000,000 Btu/hr. These
pilots use stainless steel hoods designed for temperatures in excess of
1600°F., while actual hood temperature, when firing with 70°F
air, does not exceed 1400°F.
Flame length, when fired at 1,800,000 Btu/hr in 70°still air, is
approximately 6 feet, with a diameter of approximately 18 inches.
An increase or decrease of combustion air velocity will affect this length.
