The Coen Approach

The Coen Approach to the design of liquid fuel handling systems or equipment is to carefully study the job requirements. Equipment and systems are then designed to meet job needs and customer specifications.

All necessary equipment from off-loading pump sets to final delivery pump and heater sets are available from Coen. In addition to design advantages, Coen systems or equipment use only components that measure up to Coen’s high engineering standards.

Heavy Oil Pump and Heater Sets

Coen’s heavy oil sets provide precise pre-combustion control including pressure, temperature or viscosity and volume of the liquid fuel. These units are available with capacities ranging over 900 GPM and pressures over 1000 PSI.

Light Oil Pump Sets

For light oil service, a greatly simplified pump set may be used with significant cost savings over a field-assembled unit. Coen light oil pump sets are available in simplex or duplex models and utilize the same high quality components as the heavy oil sets, including pumps, motors, starters, inlet strainer, pressure regulator, pump relief valve, gauges and a full-size sturdy base.

Special Purpose Pump and Heater Sets

In addition to commercial grade fuel oil, Coen has built numerous units for special liquid fuels including:

  • Jet fuels
  • Pyrolysis oil or pitch
  • Commercial solvents or similar waste liquids
  • Creosote
  • Coal-water slurry

Special Purpose Pump and Heater Sets

Designing and manufacturing units to the customer’s requirements is Coen’s specialty. Coen installations have unique features such as:

  • Combination #2 and #6 oil duty
  • Turbine drive with automatic transfer to or from motor drive
  • Special heaters using direct electric, Therminol (or other heat transfer medium), or Coen steam/electric design
  • Solid state heater control
  • Viscosity or combination viscosity and temperature control
  • Full instrumentation including transmitters, flow meters, controllers, recorders and computer interfacing
  • Accumulator (when required)
  • Stainless steel piping and components
  • Electric or steam tracing and insulation
  • Split set or special design to fit in limited space

Uploading and Transfer Sets

Whether used for main storage unloading, day tank transfer or booster pump service, it is important that all system requirements be considered when selecting components. Improper system design at this stage can result in pump cavitation, starvation, or an inability to start up from a cold condition. For reliable operation and specified system performance, Coen engineers have the experience to properly select and integrate all fuel handling components.
