Delta-NOx Burner |

The Delta-NOx Burner: Low NOx EmissionsThe newest innovation in Coen's long legacy is the Delta-NOx burner, destined to be the new standard for the industrial and utility markets. The versatile low NOx burning, Delta-NOx burner produces impressive performance results firing a wide variety of liquid and gaseous fuels. Firing natural gas, the Delta-NOx burner with ULN technology is designed to achieve as low as 9 PPM NOx with FGR. Coen's engineering team considered everything from meeting coast to coast emission standards to designing a burner with simple construction and low cost. The result is a burner unlike any other in the industry. The Delta-NOx burner utilizes Coen's new “Delta Spuds”, which are unique gas injectors with a custom drilling pattern that controls ignition, and at the same time reduces formation of prompt and thermal NOx. The Delta Spuds in combination with our custom low-swirl central stabilizer achieve high burner turndown and low emissions (NOx and CO). Additionally, the venturi style burner design provides superior air distribution with reduced pressure drop, further reducing NOx and CO emissions. Design Features and Benefits
Delta-NOx Burner Meets Project GoalsThe Delta-NOx performed exceptionally well in final testing at the Coen R&D Test Facility. The burner exceeded NOx emission goals firing natural gas without FGR. Even lower NOx levels were achieved when firing with FGR requiring half the FGR rate of conventional low-NOx burners for similar emission levels. Very low CO emissions were produced over the burner’s entire firing range. In addition, the Delta-NOx met all other product goals such as lower gas pressures, higher turndown, lower energy consumption, easy installation, and quick startup. InstallationsCoen selected a number of sites across the United States to demonstrate this new burner before market introduction. A 24" Delta-NOx gas burner was supplied to a waste incinerator plant in Arkansas to fire a 60,000 pph Nebraska “O” type boiler with a very high space heat release rate (SHRR) of 110,000 Btu/cu.ft. As shown below, the burner provided NOx emissions of about 0.066 lbs/MMBtu (50 PPM), and negligible CO emissions at full load with no FGR. It was commissioned in one day. At a site in Wyoming, a 42" Delta-NOx burner was successfully fired on a 200,000 pph CE VP 14W package boiler on natural gas without FGR. The boiler started up in a short time with exceptional results. It easily achieved under 0.1 lbs/MMBtu NOx (83 PPM) with a furnace space heat release rate (SHRR) of about 85,000 Btu/cu.ft. Another job site, located at a copper refinery in Texas, consists of new burners and controls supplied as a part of a Coen turnkey retrofit program. The application includes 32" Delta-NOx burners for two 125,000 pph Trane “D” type boilers, each with a SHRR of 100,000 Btu/cu.ft. NOx emissions were guaranteed at less than 83 PPM and less than 100 PPM CO. Meeting the Competition Head OnWith its lower NOx performance, lower energy consumption, higher turndown, and a simpler design than conventional burners, Coen's new Delta-NOx burner is ready to challenge the competition in setting the new packaged boiler standard.
